Razor Ramon & 1-2-3 Kid vs Shawn Michaels & Diesel

WWF Action Zone
October 30, 1994 - White Plains, NY

  • Taped on September 28. This is the second episode of the new USA Sunday morning show, so they were still offering the fool’s belief that it was going to really matter and be totally different from the world’s established weekend morning wrestling fare. It wound up more or less being the same old shit and by the end of 1995 it was a recap show for Raw and Superstars, canceled in September 1996.

  • But this is a pretty legendary 90s weekend show match. You barely ever saw anything of this quality in the WWF or WCW period, and you really didn’t see it on Sunday morning.

  • Michaels and Diesel are defending the WWF tag belts and do an interview in the entrance aisle with Charlie Minn, which is actually just Minn asking Michaels a question and getting the standard stock answer. Minn was not so great at the job, really, but I have to think that was a lot to do with direction. He’s obviously comfortable enough on camera and all that1. Vince McMahon and Todd Pettengill are on commentary. The two of them together are like watching a kid try to prove to everyone why his dad lets him hit third and play shortstop when he’s earned seventh and left field.

  • Ramon has the IC title and has had issues with both of his opponents, while the Kid is, uh, the Kid, Razor Ramon’s friend. By accomplishment, the Shawn/Diesel side has the better “small man” and the the Razor/Kid side the better “big man,” and they’ve been pretty evenly matched against each other, so it comes down to maximizing the strengths of Diesel or Kid, you’d reckon.

  • This match starts really fast, and it’s clear from the jump that these fellas didn’t come to fuck spiders, as it were.
