A new, quick, low stakes Sixer before tonight’s Dynamite!
Here’s the set, skipping the ‘95 edition because I’ve seen all of WCW ‘95 too recently to want to relive almost any of it right now:
Terrance Taylor vs Ricky Morton (1-30-1991)
Barry Windham, Ron Simmons & Dustin Rhodes vs Arn Anderson, Bobby Eaton & Larry Zbyszko (1-21-1992)
Ricky Steamboat & Shane Douglas vs Flyin’ Brian & Steve Austin (1-13-1993)
2 Cold Scorpio & Marcus Alexander Bagwell vs Pretty Wonderful (1-27-1994)
Sting & Lex Luger vs Blue Bloods (1-23-1996)
Eddie Guerrero vs Scott Norton (1-21-1997)
As always, the move is to not repeat anyone throughout a mixed Sixer like this
Terry Taylor vs Ricky Morton
WCW Clash of the Champions: Dixie Dynamite
January 30, 1991
Georgia Mountains Center - Gainesville, GA
Taylor is already “The Computerized Man of the 1990s,” but hasn’t changed to “Terrance” just yet. Dusty Rhodes, back in WCW, has a lot of time for Ricky Morton, whom he feels may be pound-for-pound the toughest man in the sport.
Dusty’s on commentary with Jim Ross, this was his first show back and he was part of the booking committee, just 11 days after his final WWF appearance at the Royal Rumble. Dusty had been capably phased out in WWF importance, though not really buried. Not too far into his WCW return, Rhodes would play a fairly notable part in Ric Flair leaving the company for the WWF, though Flair has always chiefly and squarely blamed Jim Herd’s incompetence and issues with Herd that mostly took place when Rhodes was in the WWF, whatever differences Flair and Dusty had (and there were plenty).
In the early days of his commentary career, which basically starts here, Dusty tried to be more of serious analyst than he would be later on, way less goofy, but also with the color of Dusty Rhodes, or at least some of that color.
